A pair of Autumnal wedding rings

In August, lovely couple Katy and Gareth joined me in the studio to make their wedding rings for their wedding at the end of September.

They came to the studio a couple of months previously to discuss their bespoke wedding rings, and after looking through the samples I have in the studio they chose their designs. I then ordered their gold - where possible I used 100% recycled gold for wedding ring workshops - and we chose a date for them to return to make their rings.

Katy chose a square profile 9 carat white gold ring to sit alongside her engagement ring, this was finished off with a very delicate hammered texture. Gareth opted for a two-tone ring made from 9 carat white gold and 9 carat yellow gold. This was finished off with a lightly planished surface (hammered finish achieved with a flat faced hammer with a polished face).

For an extra personal touch, they hand stamped the inside of their rings with their initials and wedding date. They made each others rings, side by side in the studio guided step by step by me, and the day lasted about six hours. Neither of them had any previous jewellery making experience and they were an absolute joy to teach.

As part of the day, I took a set of photos to document Katy and Gareths day in the workshop and show the creative processes and techniques involved with making their rings, which they will be able to share with family and friends. Here is just a small selection of images from their photo set and what they had to say about their experience!

"Absolutely amazing experience making our wedding rings. They are so special and we will always treasure the memory of making them. Louise was so kind, helpful and patient, never making us feel rushed - even though we were very slow! We will be shouting from the rooftops to any engaged couples to do the same! Thank you so much!"
